Enjoy a scenic county view? How about 7 counties & Wales!?
From a height of 1050 ft (320 m) above sea level (ASL) the horizon is 39.7 miles away (63.9 km). We have drawn a circle around the Tower with this radius on the map below. The 7 counties (5 Ceremonial counties) listed below easily fall within the radius. A county view of at least part of each is possible on a clear day. Actually, Devon is also with the 39.7 mile radius from the Tower but this county cannot be seen. The Quantock and Blackdown hills which lie on the border of Somerset and Devon block the county view of Devon from the Tower. The Quantock hill range has a peak at over 380m ASL whilst the Blackdown hills peak at over 300m ASL.
English county view list visible from the Tower:
Bath & North East Somerset
- South Gloucestershire
The edge of Wales can also be seen on very clear days. County views of Glamorgan and Monmouth are possible across the Severn channel.
The photo below is a panoramic county view taken from the North facing balcony of the Tower. The view is of the Somerset countryside stretching out from the Tower, West to the Severn Estuary and North towards Bristol.
